Louis Gerhard Jondall was born on December 25, 1885, in Lost Island Township, in Palo Alto County, Iowa. The Jondall family had moved from Story County, to a farm in northwest Iowa in 1884. Louis's father, Lars Larson Jondall was a farmer, but he also worked as a carpenter.

Louis was about 22 years of age when WW I broke out. He enlisted in the army and came home to visit my grandmother, Theresa Larson, on her farm before he went off to serve overseas. Louis was a PFC, and he was with Company B, of the 313th Engineers.

After the war, he came back to Iowa and continued working on the farm. He also lived in Ames for a time with his brother, Fred Jondall. He may have been in poor health, because he also lived at the Soldiers' Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.

According to his obituary, Louis died on November 20, 1961, while he was working at his employer's home in Radcliffe, Iowa. Louis Gerhard Jondall is buried at the Iowa Soldiers' Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.
